Real Jaén: two injuries weaken the defence

Real Jaén are facing their first major defensive problem of the season. The injuries to Javi Moyano and Mauro Cabello reduce Manolo Herrero's options for the coming matchdays and force the coach to seek alternatives in a unit that had performed well at the start of the competition.

Against Ibiza, Moyano had to leave the pitch in the opening minutes. He has suffered a muscle tear in the inner calf of his right leg. Mauro Cabello, who came on to replace him, was also unable to finish the match because of a muscle oedema in the adductor of his left leg. The two successive physical problems are affecting Herrero's plans.

The situation gives greater importance to Jaume Pol, who returned against Ibiza after overcoming a knee injury. The defender has completed his recovery period, although his return remains gradual; the circumstances could nevertheless lead to him playing more minutes in the coming weeks.

Cristian Nikolaev and Seydou Fall are also among Herrero's options to complete the central defensive pairing and could gain greater prominence if the absences continue. Other players capable of offering solutions from different positions are also available to him.

José Álvarez and Álex Pérez are emerging as two important figures in maintaining the defensive structure, while Moha can provide an option depending on the system chosen by the coach. The versatility of several players therefore gives Herrero different combinations for the coming matchdays.

The setback has arrived during what has otherwise been an encouraging period for Real Jaén. The team remain unbeaten after the opening matchdays, with 10 points from 12 available and second place in the standings. Their strong start has generated enthusiasm among supporters in their return to Primera Federación.
