Mikel Arteta moves closer to a long-term Arsenal extension

Mikel Arteta is moving closer to Arsène Wenger in terms of longevity at Arsenal. The club are due to announce their manager’s extension shortly after he led the Gunners to the Premier League title last season, ending a 22-year drought, as well as a European runners-up finish.

The Spanish coach, whose current contract expires in the summer of 2027, is to continue on a long and improved deal. This new agreement already puts him on course for a decade at the club. Arteta joined Arsenal in December 2019 and signed his previous extension in September 2024.

A five-year agreement, which could keep him at the club until 2032, may have been negotiated. It would include improved terms and the complete trust of the ownership, represented by Stan Kroenke, Arsenal’s principal shareholder. According to Forbes, his wealth is estimated at around $21.3 billion.

The comparison with Wenger is therefore gaining substance: the French iconic figure spent 22 years at Arsenal, from 1996 to 2018.

The planned continuity will also apply to Arteta’s entire coaching staff. Since arriving in London, the Spaniard has won the Premier League, one FA Cup and three Community Shields with his staff.
