John Terry issues stern warning to Xabi Alonso after Chelsea’s defensive struggles

John Terry has issued a stern warning to Xabi Alonso over Chelsea’s current struggles. The former club player believes the situation is “really unacceptable” and needs to be corrected.

Chelsea have conceded 12 goals, the highest total in the Premier League. Xabi Alonso’s side sit 10th and are without a win for three matchdays, a run that is fuelling criticism of the former Real Madrid coach.

Terry is among those who have spoken out. On his YouTube channel, the former captain acknowledged a difficult period: in his view, Chelsea are going through a tough moment and are clearly suffering from the situation.

Terry also focused on the defensive set-up. Describing himself as a supporter of a more traditional approach, he said he prefers man-to-man marking to zonal marking and advanced marking. He felt Brentford had spotted a Chelsea vulnerability at the far post in the second half.

According to the former captain, once the ball goes beyond the players positioned at the near post, nobody really knows which opponent they are meant to mark. Terry acknowledged that almost every team uses zonal marking, but criticised the players for not taking enough responsibility.
