Christensen to receive official renewal ceremony at Barça

Christensen will indeed have his own renewal “celebration” at Barcelona. The 30-year-old Danish defender extended his contract on 1 July, with his previous deal having expired on 30 June, for two more seasons through to 2028.

The Catalan club had kept the event pending since the summer. It now intends to hold an official ceremony for its defender, who will pose for the media, although no date has yet been fixed. The celebration takes on added significance following the player's latest injury, which came just as his physical issues appeared finally to be leaving him alone and he was beginning to find continuity in the team.

Despite the centre-back's recurring injuries, Barça chose to back his continued stay. Christensen also opted to continue at Spotify Camp Nou despite other offers. Having joined Barça from Chelsea in the summer of 2022, he did not receive an official ceremony when his signature was confirmed and announced.

His latest setback came against Sevilla: muscular discomfort in his quadriceps will rule him out for several weeks. The absence halts a run that had seen him feature in seven matches. Last season, he missed 36 games because of three different issues; in the 24-25 season, he missed another 50 due to two conditions.

Barça are considering several options for the event. The intention is for Christensen to be the next player celebrated, ahead of Marc Bernal and Xavi Espart, whose renewals are at the final contract-drafting stage. His continued stay at Barcelona is already one of the Dane's major recent positives.
