Eibar make history with sixth straight win and move provisionally top

Eibar made history with a sixth straight victory, a run the club had never previously achieved in professional football. At Ipurua, Jokin Aranbarri’s team overcame a Las Palmas side that was too generous defensively, despite strong visiting pressure in the closing stages, to move provisionally to the top of the standings.

The match swung quickly towards the home side, whose excellent start proved decisive before the break. Within the opening ten minutes, Mada opened the scoring with a right-footed shot from the edge of the area after receiving from Adus Ares, whose pass had been deflected by Iñaki. Álvaro Rodríguez then doubled the lead with a driven effort across goal, again set up by Ares. Eibar therefore set their six-win run in motion in the opening stages against a UD side that made life too easy for their opponents at the back.

Las Palmas, hampered by numerous absences in defence, suffered a second consecutive defeat. UD also finished the match without Iñaki, who was sent off after two yellow cards.

Eibar could have extended their advantage further before Pezzolesi pulled one back: Martón was first denied by Álex Suárez and then by Caro, who produced a notable save. Pezzolesi then brought Las Palmas back into the contest at the far post following a fine cross from Iván Jaime. The scorer of the 2-1, he also contested a ball with BernatLALIGA.

After the break, Eibar exerted greater control while looking to put the game beyond reach, whereas UD pursued an equaliser. Manu Fuster came close with an effort that skimmed the post after a lay-off from Jesé. But Eibar scored a third, once again taking advantage of a degree of passivity in the visitors’ defence: Martón finished unmarked from a pass by Guruzeta in a move started by Magunazelaia.

Las Palmas attempted to fight back. Iván Jaime nearly scored with a cross-shot that became increasingly dangerous, before Jefté eventually found the net for the first time after receiving from Elías, turning and finishing with a low shot. Eibar came under some pressure late on, but end the night top of LaLiga Hypermotion.
