Primera Federación, Group 1: Barakaldo fight back against Avilés in a day full of twists

The reports from every Primera Federación Group 1 match put the clash between Barakaldo and Avilés in the spotlight. In front of 2,500 spectators at Lasesarre, Barakaldo preserved their home unbeaten run since the start of the year, despite Avilés appearing to control the match with a 1-3 lead.

The opening stages pointed to a high-scoring game. The contest was balanced, but Avilés, led by Samu Mayo and dangerous through Cayarga, Montes and Santamaría, imposed their style before scoring twice in quick succession: Santamaría, set up by Cris Montes, and then Cayarga, played in by Santamaría, made it 0-2 between the 30th and 32nd minutes. Santamaría then saw a left-footed effort kept out by Campos.

After the break, Barakaldo raised their pressing and Carlos Mattheus reduced the deficit with an overhead kick. Avilés responded, however: after Brais won the ball, Montes set up Cayarga for 1-3. The Asturians then seemed to have done the hardest part, but Mateos brought the home side back into it with a header after Ratón made an error when coming out. Avilés subsequently lost control of the ball and Xemi equalised from a Troncho cross. Peña was booked for Barakaldo, while Mayo, Yago and Montes were cautioned for the visitors.

In another match, the sides remained evenly matched for a long time. Álex Compa opened the scoring in the 27th minute by deflecting an Elejalde shot, before Íker Ivorra scored an own goal after the interval while attempting to clear under pressure from San Emeterio.

UD Logroñés won a wild match with two late goals. Mérida therefore suffered a second consecutive home defeat in a similar scenario: a goal conceded in added time, followed by another when the home team had been deflated. In an open match featuring swings in momentum, chances at both ends and spells of shared dominance, a lethal Logroñés counterattack brought down Mérida and seriously jeopardises their coach Fran Beltrán. At the Romano Stadium, 3,445 spectators watched the match; Sandoval, Nacho G., Sofiane, Koné and Baselga received yellow cards.

At Anduva, a single goal from Riki, scored directly from a corner at the end of the first half, earned Mirandés all three points. Unionistas had previously found the net with a Gorka header, but the goal was disallowed for a prior foul. The visitors pushed for an equaliser after the break but failed to find one. Aguirregabiria, Verde, Uzkudun, Mikel Serrano, Willy and Luis Alcalde were booked.

Ourense earned their first point against Cacereño with a markedly improved display. In the 20th minute, the home goalkeeper prevented Tellechea from scoring with a fine save, giving his side confidence. Ourense could have gone ahead through a Bastida effort following a corner that went narrowly over the bar, while debutant Baldrich missed another good opportunity in the second half. The match at O Couta was played in front of 1,833 spectators; Diego Tejón, Julio Cabrera, Curro Rivelott and Expósito were booked.

Bilbao Athletic remain unbeaten after five rounds and can rely on Vizcay's form. The forward scored the first two goals in the win over Arenas. Clearly superior in the first half and set up in the opposition half, the reserve side opened the scoring when Conde found Vizcay. Right at the start of the second half, Vizcay completed his brace at the end of a triple chance, before Lete sealed the result with a powerful strike from the edge of the box, following a Vizcay assist. Rubi, Zubelzu and Arratibel received yellow cards.

Dépor beat Real Unión 2-0 through goals from Fraga in the 85th minute and Mardones in the 96th. Dépor's youth held off the experience of Real Unión, who were beaten after making them work hard in the closing stages. The Coruñans made the most of their strong spell, with goalkeeper Marqués both hero and unfortunate protagonist. Fraga headed in an excellent Koke cross, then Mardones finished from close range after a Kevin run as the Basque side pushed forward. Mardones, Fontán, Azkune, Mateo and De la Mata were booked.

Lugo won the first derby of the season against Racing thanks to Álex Gallar, who scored in the 23rd minute after an excellent Palma cross. Racing responded and Marc Martínez made two decisive saves before the break. The Ferrol side then deserved more after constant pressure, but Lugo held firm: still unbeaten, the club are now top. The match at Anxo Carro drew 3,994 spectators.

Coria wiped out a 2-0 deficit in four minutes against Cultural. Algobia had opened the scoring in a scrappy move, before Pedro Benito doubled the lead after several rebounds in the box around the half-hour mark. After the break, Coria pushed forward; Morcillo, who had been on the pitch for barely two minutes, pulled one back, before Javi Tapia equalised from a corner. The match at Reino de León, in front of 7,156 spectators, saw Pomares, Edu Llorente, Jacobo and Álex Blanco booked.

Finally, Zamora remain unbeaten away from home after their win over Extremadura, courtesy of a Diego Espejo own goal. Extremadura missed a penalty in the first half, then conceded that goal after hesitation from their goalkeeper. The match at Francisco de la Hera drew 4,700 spectators.
