Sainz has lost the lead of the Rally of Morocco, while Quintero has made a major impact on the championship picture. After the fourth stage, Carlos Sainz and Dani Oliveras were unable to defend their first place in the rally. Their Ford Raptor faced a difficult day.
Seth Quintero now leads the overall Rally of Morocco standings. A final victory would give him a major opportunity in the title race: it would put him at the top of the world championship with only one more race to come. Nasser Al-Attiyah and Loeb will not score points at the end of this event.
Ekström also had a strong day. After mechanical problems prevented him from starting the stage the previous day, he was able to hit back. The stage win was being contested in particular by drivers who started further back, including Ekström, Lategan, Moraes and Mitch Guthrie.
The Rally of Morocco will conclude with the final 259 kilometres around Zagora. Quintero heads into the last stage in front, while Sainz will have to try to get back into contention near the top.
