“I have no excuse, it was ugly!” Maxence Caqueret is happy to laugh about the haircut he had at the start of his time at Olympique Lyonnais. Now 26, the French midfielder at Como spoke about the style in an interview with Kampo, turning a youthful mistake into a source of amusement.
Back then, his very short, slicked-down hair drew comments, not all of them flattering. “It was a passing mistake,” he joked. “It was ‘the Lyonnais style’ at first. In Lyon, almost all of us had that haircut. I know it wasn’t good. I’m not even going to make excuses for myself; that’s just how it was, a mistake along the way.”
Caqueret also explained how the habit began: “I don’t do much with my hair. I used to put things in it because it’s fine. If I didn’t put anything in, it fell over my eyes. That was the reason at first. Then it became a habit.” Today, the style has changed little, but it is less severe and has more volume.
The former Lyonnais has been at Como for a year and a half. He is not an undisputed starter in the eyes of his coach, Cesc Fabregas, but contributes his technique and work rate. He is alongside French goalkeeper Jean Butez and captain Lucas Da Cunha, whose France debut drew notice.
