Real Sociedad lost the EH Txapela final 0-1 to Athletic in a match held in front of spectators at Anoeta for the first time. After a laboured first half, Athletic took control after the break and claimed the trophy through a goal by Maroan from a free kick taken by former Real Sociedad player Robert Navarro.
The decisive moment came in the 58th minute: Robert Navarro delivered the ball and the unmarked Maroan headed home to open the scoring. Real Sociedad struggled to respond. Athletic gained some confidence after having a goal ruled out, but did not trouble Remiro too much.
There were chances around that spell. Real Sociedad’s attacks lacked consistency and, early in the second half, Aihen thought he had equalised after Guedes mishit an effort, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. Gorrotxategi then threatened Santos from close range. Athletic eventually made the difference, while Gorrotxategi and Rincón were cautioned.
