Leo Messi celebrated Eldense’s comeback and emphatic victory, as the club beat Oviedo on Friday. Earlier this week, Eldense had announced that the footballer had become its owner.
On Instagram, Messi shared a photo of himself following the match, with the message “Go Deportivo.” Eldense won 4-1 at Nuevo Pepico Amat after the Asturian side opened the scoring in the first minute.
Eldense’s X account reposted the same photo with the words: “An important victory achieved by everyone together.” It was the team’s second win, following its victory away to Sporting de Gijón. However, it was the first since Javi Calleja became head coach and Messi was announced as owner.
On Thursday, October 1, Eldense announced a new chapter with Messi as owner, while noting that the transaction remained subject to the required approval from the CSD, the Consejo Superior del Deporte.
Known among its supporters as “Deportivo,” Club Deportivo Eldense was founded in 1921. It is playing its eighth season in Spain’s second division, the highest level it has reached so far in its 105 years.
