Carlos Alcaraz and Denis Shapovalov will meet in the Tokyo quarter-finals on Sunday, October 4. Their match is scheduled for the central court at Ariake Coliseum, as the second match of the day session, at around 6 a.m. in Spain. Shapovalov, aged 27 and ranked 46th, stands between Alcaraz and a place in the last four.
The Spaniard advanced after beating Matteo Arnaldi on Saturday. He needs three more wins to retain his title in Tokyo. Shapovalov, meanwhile, needed three sets to defeat Alejandro Tabilo in the second round. The Canadian also has good memories of Tokyo.
Their previous meetings favour Alcaraz: the pair have faced each other twice, and he won both encounters. The match gives Shapovalov a chance to change that record, while Alcaraz will aim to continue his pursuit of the title.
In Spain, the Open 500 Tokyo quarter-final will be broadcast on Movistar+, which holds the competition’s rights.
