Urdapilleta fears Messi’s international retirement

Benjamín Urdapilleta spoke on Tuesday about his worry that Lionel Messi could bring his international career to an end. The Argentine fly-half, the new leading points-scorer of France’s championship in its professional era with 2,619 points, is anxious about the forward’s departure from the national team.

Appearing on « Bartoli Time » on RMC, the rugby player spoke of his admiration for Messi. “I’m going to fall into depression,” he confessed. He also expressed dismay at the thought of Argentina without its idol: “Watching Argentina play without Messi is sad. It’s not the same anymore. It’s incredible.”

That prospect is especially tangible because Messi is due to play his final match for Argentina next Tuesday, against Benin at the Monumental de Buenos Aires. For Urdapilleta, the possibility speaks to the player’s significance beyond the pitch: he already finds the thought of Argentina playing without him hard to accept.
