“He could become one of the best of all time”: after England’s win over Croatia, Roy Keane delivered a glowing assessment of Jude Bellingham. The former player, now a television pundit, also called the England international “a great leader for England”, adding that there was still much more to come from him.
The Real Madrid midfielder was among the leading figures in England’s success, which ended 0-7 on Saturday. Harry Kane scored twice, while Gordon also found the net. Bellingham scored once and provided three assists.
Keane emphasised what Bellingham contributes beyond his technical ability. “I’ve praised him for being fantastic on the ball, but what he does off it is what motivates all these players,” he said. In Keane’s view, Bellingham’s commitment can inspire his teammates, alongside his skill in possession and his status as a Real Madrid player. Keane also described England’s performance as “impeccable” and said Croatia had looked like “a Gibraltar-type team”.
England manager Thomas Tuchel also praised Bellingham’s display, saying he had reached “a higher level”. He added a note of caution, however, recalling that “in football, you can never stand still”.
