Barcelona inflicted a 7-0 defeat on Real Madrid in a display of incisive football and finishing. Claudia Pina began her scoring festival as Real Madrid were comprehensively outplayed. The emphatic loss came after the Madrid side had strengthened over the summer and approached the match with optimism, amid expectations that the gap between the teams was narrowing.
Barcelona’s dominance continued with a goal from Graham, scored a minute after Pina’s third. The Catalan side then extended its advantage: Patri sent a long pass to Graham, and the Norwegian set up Pajor for the sixth goal.
At half-time, Pina summed up her team’s mindset: « Que no nos metan ningún gol », she urged as the referee blew for the break. With half an hour remaining, Aitana Bonmatí and Kerolin came on for Pina and Graham.
The win also brings the gap between the sides back into focus. They are due to meet at least once more this season, and Barcelona will again look to dispel doubts about the balance of their encounters.
