Aarón Mayol is making waves in the market after breaking through at Valencia, another illustration of how quickly a player’s prospects can change. His value has increased a hundredfold in Transfermarkt’s latest update, rising from 50,000 euros to five million. In percentage terms, that is by far the biggest increase in the Liga. Two standout appearances in the top flight have accompanied the surge.

The defensive midfielder arrived from Levante a little over a year ago and made his first-team debut as a starter in Vitoria. Before that, Aaron had joined Valencia’s youth setup from Levante. The club renewed his contract this summer, before his first-division debut.

His rapid rise also brings a contractual issue into focus. Valencia needs to move quickly to avoid an unwelcome surprise, given Mayol’s situation. If he is given a first-team registration, together with a new contract and revised salary, his release price would reach 30 million euros. That could give Valencia greater peace of mind, but the possibility remains conditional.
