Ittihad Tanger goalkeeper handed three-match suspension

Ittihad Tanger’s goalkeeper has been suspended for three matches following an incident in the closing minutes of a match at the Grand Stadium in Tangier. The disciplinary commission also issued a warning to the club and ordered it to repair the damaged section of the pitch.

Before a penalty awarded to Moghreb Tetouan was taken, Abair attempted to tamper with the penalty spot. The commission deemed the conduct contrary to the rules and sporting spirit of domestic competitions. The match ended one goal apiece.

The decision is part of a recent run of sanctions over similar incidents. Abair’s punishment was the second of its kind in recent times, following one imposed on a Widad Temara player. Moroccan supporters reacted strongly on social media, describing the measure as severe and excessive.
