Lewis Hamilton has reacted to a Ferrari helmet designed by a fan and inspired by Star Wars. The seven-time champion liked photos of the creation posted on social media by its maker, bringing attention to the design.
The helmet pairs the recognisable outline of a Mandalorian helmet with the design and colours of Hamilton’s current helmet at Scuderia Ferrari. Rather than the metallic beskar finish associated with the fictional universe, the creation uses the driver’s familiar yellow, picked out with fine red lines. LEDs behind the Richard Mille logo, above the visor, also cast a red glow.
Ferrari’s Prancing Horse sits at the centre of the helmet’s forehead. The HP logo and the other usual sponsors are positioned as they are on Hamilton’s own helmet. Seven stars on each side recall his seven championship titles, won since the start of his career in 2007.
The design reflects Hamilton’s interest in Star Wars: he has a long-standing friendship with George Lucas, the creator of the saga.
