Al-Hilal has decided to halve Crysencio Summerville’s monthly salary after the winger was sent off against Al-Gharafa. The club will apply its internal rules following the sanction imposed on the player by the Asian confederation, Saudi journalist Abdulrahman Abaoud said. Last month, Abaoud had said the club was waiting for the referee’s report and the confederation’s decision to assess Summerville’s involvement in the incident.
The match, played at Kingdom Arena in the middle of last month, ended in a 2-1 win for Al-Hilal on the opening day of the AFC Elite Champions League’s league phase. Summerville was shown a straight red card in the 33rd minute after an altercation with Al-Gharafa midfielder Ismaël Bennacer, who was also sent off.
On Thursday, the Asian Football Confederation suspended Summerville for 3 matches and fined him 2,000 dollars after his straight red card for misconduct. The suspension will keep him out for Al-Hilal until the halfway point of the league phase; he will miss the games against Al-Sadd, Al-Shamal and Shabab Al-Ahli.
Abaoud reports that Al-Hilal had previously imposed a similar sanction on Kalidou Koulibaly after his dismissal in the final of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup against Al-Nassr, two years ago. Al-Hilal is also third in the West group with 3 points, level on goal difference behind Al-Ain and Esteghlal Tehran.
