Cristiano Ronaldo is under a provisional international suspension, with the Federation yet to determine the final length of the sanction. The possible outcomes being reported range from one month to six months out.
The provisional measure took effect after Ronaldo left the national team camp in Denmark last week. The Federation’s disciplinary council still has to meet and decide the case. ESPN has reported the possible suspension range; it is not yet a final ruling.
Council members are also expected to weigh mitigating circumstances. These include the public apology Ronaldo made last Tuesday. A six-month suspension appears highly unlikely given several factors in the player’s favour, including a career with many victories for the national team spanning more than 20 years, according to the claim.
The consequences could affect Portugal’s schedule. If the minimum one-month suspension is imposed, Ronaldo would be available for Jorge Jesus to select for the next two UEFA Nations League matches, against Wales and Denmark on 14 and 17 November respectively. That remains conditional on the final decision.
