LeBron has vowed to “get better” after a strong preseason debut with Philadelphia. “We’ll get better and better,” LeBron James said, as he settles into a new team and continues to find his footing.

James is entering his 24th season, an NBA record, after spending eight years with the Los Angeles Lakers. He said wearing a new uniform did not change the essentials: “Obviously, I was wearing a new uniform, but the game is the game, and the game is needed to be played on the floor.”

The first outing also gave Philadelphia fans a glimpse of the team put together this summer. Jaylen Brown, who arrived from the Boston Celtics, featured alongside Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. Maxey scored 14 points, while each of the other starters had at least six, and the play was sharp at times.

James was glad to spend time on court with teammates he had been competing against in practice over the previous week and a half. He also spoke about the adjustments involved in this new chapter: after the offseason, getting back into familiar routines takes work, both on and off the court. “It’s a lot of adjustment for me, but every day we’ll get better and better,” he said.
