Luis Carbonell has said he remains deeply attached to Barça despite his spell at Real Madrid. “I became a big Barça fan because of the one I consider the best player in history: he was the one who caught my attention. He was the one I liked. I used to put on Barça matches to watch Messi. I had to wear white, but I’m very Barça,” he said.
In an interview with El After de Post United, the 23-year-old former Real Zaragoza forward revisited several moments from his career. He spoke, in particular, about his time with Real Madrid’s Juvenil A and an encounter with Florentino Pérez. “I remember having pizza for dinner in a hotel and Florentino Pérez touching my back. The aura he gives off is incredible,” he said.
Carbonell also discussed Fermín López, whom he faced among players of his own age. Recalling his development, he said: “Fermín, that little […] was tiny and then, all of a sudden, in Linares, he had an incredible physical transformation. Even as a kid, he already had an abundance of quality.” Carbonell also recalled that after tournaments Fermín had to leave quickly because everyone wanted photos with him.
Carbonell’s career had promised much, but a serious knee injury brought it to a halt when he was still very young. He is now trying to make the most of a new opportunity at Barbastro, in Segunda RFEF.
