“I want to help Barça make its history greater”: Xavi Espart summed up his ambition in those words. Born on 21 May 2007, the player renewed his contract until June 2030 and says his connection with the club goes back to childhood. “I was born a Barça fan and I’ve been playing there since I was eight,” he said on his social media after the renewal.
His progress has taken a new step this season. After making his Champions League debut last season, he has been described as the academy player to make the biggest impression this season, a rise that earned him the number 12 shirt with the first team.
For Espart, wearing Barça’s shirt means more than a sporting challenge. “Defending these colours has always been a source of pride for me, and being able to wear this shirt is a dream,” he said. He also credited the club and La Masia with helping him achieve his first ambitions: “Thanks to everything the club and La Masia have given me, I’ve been able to fulfil my first dreams.”
He says the next step is to keep working and help the team succeed. “Now it’s about continuing to work, giving everything and enjoying it, so we can take Barça as high as possible,” he concluded, expressing his wish to “help make Barça’s history greater.”
