João Félix previously played for Barcelona during the 2023-2024 season, having joined on loan from Atlético de Madrid. A return to the Catalan club nevertheless appears uncertain: Al-Nassr would like to keep the Portuguese forward for longer by activating a clause that could extend his contract by two further seasons. Félix’s camp, meanwhile, has begun preparing for a possible return.

Al-Nassr’s new president, Ahmed Al-Sultan, would like to activate the automatic extension clause. The guaranteed term of Félix’s contract has entered its final year. That move could hinder the Portuguese player’s plan to return to European football soon if the Saudi club decides to extend his deal.

Barcelona would not make Félix’s return a priority in the summer 2027 transfer market. The club could still view it as an opportunity, despite already having several attacking options.

In the longer term, Al-Nassr’s leadership is reportedly considering giving Félix a prominent role in its project and making him one of the team’s leading figures as Cristiano Ronaldo progresses through his career. The player’s wish to return and his current club’s intentions point in opposite directions, but a Barcelona comeback is not assured.
