Juan Carlos Garrido, the former Al Ahly coach, emphasized the significance of the top-of-the-table match against Zamalek. In his view, it is one of world football’s major fixtures and is decided by more than technical and tactical factors: it also calls for players with strong character.
In a separate statement, Garrido described the contest awaiting Al Ahly supporters in Cairo as “a truly exceptional derby.” He went on to characterize Al Ahly-Zamalek encounters as some of football’s most important matches, driven by the passion and enthusiasm of both sides and the intense support of their fans.
The former coach also highlighted the particular demands the occasion places on players. “Playing this match is always something exceptional. You need players with very strong character, because it is not only about tactics; you also have to fight on the pitch for the supporters,” he said, recalling how much the fixture means to people in Cairo.
Garrido ended by wishing success to Egyptians and Cairo residents, singling out Al Ahly supporters, whom he said he knows well. He encouraged them to enjoy the derby and wished them a great match.
