Gary Neville warns that “hell will break loose” if Manchester City win the Premier League this season. The former Manchester United player says the financial case involving the club should be resolved by February or March, before a potential title intensifies the dispute.
Manchester City was found guilty of all charges relating to breaches of the league’s financial rules over nine seasons, as well as most of the charges concerning a failure to cooperate with Premier League investigations. The club had been accused of “systematically breaching Premier League rules for nearly a decade”.
Speaking on “Overlap Daily”, Neville also said it would be “extremely difficult to watch Manchester City win the championship this year”. He added: “If Manchester City lift the Premier League trophy in May, I think hell will break loose. I think this case needs to be dealt with by February or March.”
Manchester City has consistently denied wrongdoing and pledged to prove its innocence after lodging an official appeal. The case, which involves 130 charges against City, also included claims that 900 million pounds had been concealed through commercial agreements described as “fictitious”.
Neville also said Manchester City would fail the Premier League owners’ and shareholders’ test. He said his view was based on his knowledge of the requirements, including his experience as owner of Salford City.
