Pedrerol has issued a stern warning to Real Madrid supporters: their whistles could make Laporta very happy. Tensions have risen ahead of the match against Villarreal, scheduled for Saturday evening, after calls for a protest at the Santiago Bernabéu. Supporters want to express their anger over the team’s declining results, the conduct of some of its stars — notably Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior — and that of Florentino Pérez’s management.
The protest call has spread on social media under the slogan « Whistles at the Bernabéu… the Bernabéu speaks », with supporters urged to show their discontent in the minutes before kick-off. Josep Pedrerol, presenter of « El Chiringuito », criticised the initiative. In his view, booing early would not help Real Madrid; instead, it would give Barcelona a moral advantage as the Madrid club goes through a difficult period.
« Barcelona supporters should be enormously grateful to Real Madrid fans for booing their players », Pedrerol said, arguing that Joan Laporta would be pleased if the Bernabéu stands put pressure on Real Madrid’s players. The journalist also responded to those backing the protest: « It seems to me that they are Barcelona supporters. » His objection, in other words, is that they would add pressure before an important Spanish league match.
Pedrerol nevertheless accepts that supporters have the right to express their anger if the team performs poorly. He considers whistles understandable if, in the closing minutes, the team has not made the necessary effort to get back into the match. The controversy comes as Mbappé is also facing criticism for travelling to France and Switzerland with Ester Expósito during the international break rather than focusing on his recovery.
