Robin Orins is retiring from cycling at 24 after collapsing under the strain of anxiety and exhaustion. He made his decision public in a message on Instagram, saying he wanted to prioritise his mental health and that of his family. The Lotto Intermarché rider had spent only two seasons in the top tier. In 2025, after moving up to the professional ranks, he spoke of mental health problems.
In his message, Orins describes a period that left him drained and unable to compete at his full potential. He also writes of how difficult it was to find his former self again. “No matter how hard I worked, my body said ‘no’,” he wrote. He added that his head and heart were now saying “no” as well.
The young rider recalls getting on a bicycle at the age of six and says he is now 24. He describes this chapter as one that made him who he is and that people will talk about for years. He closes with a saying from his friends: “The fox loses its fur, but not its tricks.”
