“You never know when it will be the last one,” Roglic said before Il Lombardia, acknowledging that it could be his final race. “As with everything in life, it can be a little emotional. But I’m really looking forward to it,” he added at the race presentation.
The possibility of stepping away has also emerged in reports citing two sources close to the rider: Roglic is considering not continuing in the peloton through 2027 and ending his career at the top, as he approaches his 37th birthday. He will not continue with Red Bull BORA. Despite having offers from other teams, he has not ruled out this being his last race as a professional.
The Slovenian has not made a public decision. Asked about a possible departure from cycling, he said: “We’ll see. I think I’ll keep racing, but it’s more difficult. It’s getting harder to find or do the right thing. For now, the reality is that I’m here and I have a race. One thing at a time. These races come first; then I can talk and try to work out what my future will look like.”
Roglic also summed up his feelings about the Vuelta simply: “I enjoy this race.”
