“Imga is very young, but he has a lot of talent,” Edin Terzic said of Christian Imga, the notable new addition to Athletic’s squad for the trip to Vallecas to face Rayo. The coach believes the young winger has plenty to offer: “Anyone who knows him knows what he is capable of.”
Aged 17, Imga trained with the first team for the first time on Tuesday, in an open session at Lezama. The previous day, he had been included in the 23-player squad selected by Terzic. The coach said the call-up would help the youngster get closer to the group and settle into its routines. He also pointed to Imga’s physical stature, saying he is 1.90 metres tall.
Athletic have several absences to contend with: Nico Williams and Oihan Sancet are injured, while Laporte was unable to travel after feeling unwell the previous day. Terzic nevertheless said the players stepping in for Nico and Sancet were ready to do well. Imga’s call-up comes as the team deals with those absences, giving the young winger an opportunity to move closer to the first team.
