Juventus will be unable to part ways with Nick Woltemade in the next winter transfer window: a clause in his contract requires his loan to be extended until June 2027. The restriction comes as the German forward struggles to impress since arriving in Turin, with growing doubts over his future at the club.

Aged 24, Woltemade joined Juventus from Newcastle in the final days of the summer transfer window. So far, he has scored only once, from the penalty spot, in four matches, and has not convinced Luciano Spalletti that he is performing at the expected level. Juventus will therefore have to keep him at least for the period stipulated by the clause.

Juventus is not obliged to sign him permanently. Newcastle remains open to a sale after the end of the season, while his future with the English team is uncertain. The club recruited him for around 80 million euros.

Last summer, Woltemade preferred to stay at Newcastle before his coach encouraged him to move to Turin in search of more playing time. The player has since acknowledged his difficulties: “I’m in a new country and learning a new language, and I’m still looking for an apartment because I’m currently staying in a hotel. I’m not entirely satisfied with my performances, but I want to keep improving and help the team.”

His future remains unresolved, but the loan cannot be cut short this winter. After his name was linked with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund during the summer transfer window, Woltemade now has an opportunity to rediscover his form and convince Juventus he can lead its attack. The club’s management is also considering other ways to strengthen the forward line, including Mateo Retegui, Folarin Balogun and Antonio Raimondo.
