Toulon defeated Racing 92 29-15 on Saturday in the sixth round of the Top 14. Following Pierre Mignoni’s departure, the club secured its second win of the season in the competition and moved further away from the bottom of the table.
La Rochelle also had reason to celebrate, bringing home a bonus-point win from Lyon, 28-16. Vannes put up a fight but lost 21-12 at Perpignan and remain without a win. Pau beat Castres 35-26 in a hard-fought match, and the result was enough for the Section to go top of the standings ahead of Toulouse-Bayonne on Sunday.
Pau had already been through a close contest the previous week at Vannes, where they won 43-40. Against Castres, they again had to work hard to hold on to their advantage. The win is valuable for Pau, while Castres leave beaten.
For Toulon, victory over Racing was a welcome response following Mignoni’s departure. La Rochelle, meanwhile, secured an important result at Lyon. Vannes leave Perpignan still without a win and without a point, while Pau sit provisionally at the top before Toulouse face Bayonne.
