Inter claimed a convincing 3-0 victory over Parma to move to the top of the Serie A standings. Petar Sučić opened the scoring, Hakan Çalhanoğlu extended the lead, and Marcus Thuram added a third in the second half. The result gives Cristian Chivu’s side three points as it heads into a demanding stretch of fixtures.
For Alberto Gilardino, the defeat made for a difficult start as Parma coach, although his team’s response after going two goals down offered encouragement. “Parma started well, but when you make naive mistakes, you pay for them,” he said. His players were 2-0 behind after 20 minutes, but stayed in the game in the second half, he felt, and he also took positives from individual performances. Gilardino said his side had created three or four significant chances against a strong opponent and should not be judged solely on its early errors.
Chivu said he was pleased with his team’s performance and underlined the importance of managing workloads as the schedule intensifies. Çalhanoğlu was withdrawn at the 60-minute mark under a prearranged plan, the coach said, to support his fitness while avoiding unnecessary danger. “He is fine,” Chivu said. “We gave him an hour to give him the opportunity to improve his condition. It was the right moment after a very good week of work.”
