“The real Grimaldo is already starting to show,” Alejandro Grimaldo said after Atlético de Madrid’s victory over Deportivo Alavés at Mendizorroza. The defender was one of the leading figures in the win, scoring his team’s first goal.
Grimaldo acknowledged that circumstances had made his start rushed. “Pre-season, a new club and a new league” had played a part, he said, before adding: “Now you’re seeing the Grimaldo I am and what I can bring to the team.” A few weeks earlier, he had also said that things could only improve from there.
The player also stressed the significance of winning away from home. “Getting the three points away is always difficult,” he said, describing a win as essential after a long break for international duty. In his view, Atlético deserved the victory.
Having scored and feeling that his progress is taking shape, Grimaldo believes his contribution is beginning to show on the pitch. His first goal in the win underlined his message: after a difficult opening, he now feels able to offer more to his team.
