From the Bernabéu to Brazil: Clarence Seedorf has been appointed head coach of Corinthians. The Brazilian club announced that the former Milan player would replace Fernando Diniz, who had left his position. The appointment came as a surprise among the names considered for the job, with Seedorf rarely appearing on the candidate lists.
The length of his deal was not presented as officially confirmed: reports said he had signed a contract through December 2027. Seedorf is tasked with reviving a side whose morale has been badly affected as Corinthians fights to remain in the top division.
“Accepting this challenge is a great honour, but it also represents an enormous responsibility. I am here to give everything I have and build a team that fights for every ball, every minute and every victory,” Seedorf said.
Seedorf was expected in São Paulo in the following days, accompanied by his new technical staff. In the meantime, William Batista was expected to lead the team from the bench for its match against Palmeiras. Seedorf had been at the Santiago Bernabéu for the meeting between Real Madrid and Villarreal before preparing to begin his new role.
The task is a difficult one: Corinthians is enduring the worst crisis in its recent history, despite winning the Brazilian Cup and the Super Cup only a few months earlier.
