Bayern Munich’s president says the club is not obliged to sell its players, amid rumours linking Michael Olise with Real Madrid. He also said he hopes the French winger will extend his contract.
Responding to suggestions that the German league is “too small” for Olise, the president defended the player’s place at Bayern and said he wanted him to stay. Hainer praised the winger’s progress: “We are extremely happy to have Michael Olise. He has developed into one of the best players in the world. I am convinced he can win the Ballon d’Or one day, and perhaps this year.”
Addressing the summer rumours involving Real Madrid, he reiterated that Bayern makes its decisions “from a position of strength”. He also said Olise is under contract until 2029 and that he hopes the player will extend it.
In making the case for staying at Bayern, he pointed to the chance to win titles and compete at the highest international level. He also noted that the club had reached the Champions League semi-finals and played major matches against Paris Saint-Germain.
Hainer also defended Manuel Neuer after his mistake against Augsburg in a match that ended 2-2. He called the incident regrettable, while stressing that the goalkeeper had earned his team points in many matches and that errors of this kind could happen.
