“We are not unstoppable, but we are in a good run,” Pau Cubarsí said. The Barça defender is keeping his feet on the ground as his team has won all nine of its possible official matches: eight in LaLiga and one in the Champions League.
Cubarsí does not describe Barça as the best team in the world. Instead, he portrays a positive, confident group determined to extend this spell without getting carried away. “Unstoppable, no, but in a very good run. Very positive and with a lot of confidence,” he said.
That caution takes on added significance at Galatasaray’s stadium. Liverpool and Juventus have fallen there, a reminder for Barça to approach the setting carefully despite its current form. Flick also stressed the need to handle the surroundings well: “We know their qualities, we know the atmosphere the stadium creates.” His instruction, he explained, was to play their own game and stay alert to the small details.
The winning run is a source of confidence, but Cubarsí’s message is that it does not remove the need for vigilance. Barça are enjoying success, he suggests, without claiming to be invincible and while recognising the importance of staying focused.
