“Are we seeing technical weakness?” Christophe Dugarry asked, concerned by Marseille’s level at the start of the season, after its 2-0 win away to Troyes in Ligue 1. Sunday’s victory, in the sixth round, ended a run of four straight defeats for the Marseille side.

Speaking on Rothen s’enflamme on RMC on Monday, Dugarry criticised the Olympians’ lack of quality in possession. The win halted the losing streak, but the performance did not persuade him. “The number of poor first touches, bad passes, bad decisions... It’s catastrophic!” he said.

The match was short on spectacle and also left Jérôme Rothen unimpressed: in his view, the result was the only thing worth taking from it. Bruno Genesio’s men struggled to create danger and could have left Aube with fewer points.

Dugarry also said the team managed by Bruno Genesio was on course “to fight against relegation” this season. He nevertheless acknowledged the importance of ending the run of defeats: “After four defeats in a row, the bleeding had to be stopped. They came away with the three points by winning away; that’s the only thing to take from it.” His verdict on the performance was therefore harsh, despite the three points earned at Troyes.
