“More technology, less real life”: Marcos Llorente is questioning society’s progress and the impact of digital tools on everyday life. The Atlético de Madrid player posted a message on Instagram on Monday, a national public holiday, challenging the idea that technological advances also mean progress in human relationships.

“Who really believes we are moving forward?” he asks at the start of his reflection. He then points to the spread of screens and the loss of contact with nature and other people. “More screens, less nature. More digital connection, less human connection. More technology, less real life,” he writes. He concludes: “Today we have access to almost everything, but we seem to be getting further and further from what matters most.”

Llorente regularly shares his views on his official accounts. This time, he focuses on the balance between technology and personal relationships, an issue that reaches beyond football.

His post appeared in the hours before Atlético de Madrid’s Champions League match against Manchester United at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. But the message he shared on Instagram is about the effects of screens and technology on relationships, rather than his club’s sporting agenda.
