Oviedo beat Eibar and take away their top spot

Oviedo beat Eibar and left them without top spot. Eibar had arrived at the Carlos Tartiere aiming to defend their lead, but the home side took control early. Goti opened the scoring in the 3rd minute with a right-footed shot from outside the area.

Aarón Escandell then made his presence felt in goal as Eibar tried to get back into the match. But Carlos Domínguez made it 2-0 in the 45th minute, just as Eibar appeared to be growing into the contest. Eibar reduced the deficit after the break. In the closing moments, Carlos Domínguez scored again to complete his brace and seal the match.

Before the game, Calero had urged his team to move on: “We have to put what happened in Elda behind us and think about Eibar.” The result delivered on that call for a fresh start. Mikel Goti scored his first goal in the blue shirt, while Carlos Domínguez claimed a brace on Comandante Morales’ debut.
