Daniil Medvedev has put his disqualification behind him by stringing together wins in Shanghai. His 6-4, 7-5 victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas sends him into the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters 1000. He is now among the season’s top eight players and continues to move closer to the ATP Finals in Turin.
Medvedev remains eighth in the 2026 Race with 3,220 points. He has edged further ahead of his nearest pursuer, Alex de Miñaur, while closing in on Arthur Fils. The result carries added significance after a recent disciplinary setback: last week, Daniil lost the 200 points linked to his semi-final at the Beijing Open 500 after being disqualified against Novak Djokovic for accidentally hitting a spectator.
Medvedev is also pursuing a mark of consistency in Shanghai. Before him, only Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray had managed to reach the tournament’s quarter-finals in three consecutive editions.
On Friday, he will await the winner of the match between Zizou Bergs, who defeated Carlos Alcaraz, and Tommy Paul. The win over Tsitsipas therefore takes him into the next stage of the tournament, while his Race points strengthen his bid for Turin.
