Samir Nasri has voiced his support for Manchester City amid the case concerning the club’s finances. The former midfielder spoke after an independent commission found major breaches of Premier League financial rules covering the period from 2009 to 2018. The club has appealed the findings, while any potential sanctions remain unresolved.
Nasri, who says he played for City from 2011 to 2017 and won two Premier League titles during that time, said he had written to the club’s president to offer his support. “Worried? No. I sent a message to the president to show my support. They seem pretty confident. They know what they are accused of, and they are quite confident,” he said.
The former France international also responded to criticism from former players, some of whom have publicly raised the possibility of City losing titles if sanctions are imposed. Nasri maintained that the disciplinary process would not change his view of the team’s achievements. “I have seen former players giving their opinions here and there. Fine, but on the pitch, we won the titles. They can take them away from us; we know that we won them,” he said.
City disputes the allegations and has challenged the latest decision. The case has drawn attention because of its potential impact on the club’s finances, sporting record and standing in English football. City is awaiting the next stage of proceedings, which could have significant implications for the Premier League champions’ legacy.
