Kuwait’s sports minister has described hosting the Saudi Super Cup in Kuwait as a “major challenge.” The participation of a selection of world football stars is one reason for the scale of the task, he said. The country aims to deliver an edition worthy of the competition’s standing and the value supporters attach to it.

Speaking on the sidelines of the draw, held in Kuwait on Wednesday, Al-Jalahma called the event an opportunity to demonstrate the country’s capacity to host major sporting competitions. He also stressed that staging it successfully would require adequate resources and cooperation between the public and private sectors.

The minister has made that partnership a priority as Kuwait seeks to host more events in the future. The ambition extends beyond football. “We are working to strengthen the partnership between the public and private sectors so that we can host these types of events in the future, not only in football but also in different sports,” he said.

The competition is scheduled to take place in Kuwait from December 19 to 23. Al-Ahli, Al-Qadsiah, Al-Nassr and Al-Kholood are set to take part.
