Patrick Reed says the DP World Tour welcomed him after he left LIV Golf. Under the updated regulations, every former European Tour member must formally confirm they will not enter LIV 2.0’s planned return, after the original version sought Chapter 11 protection.

“This year fully playing on this tour only has been something I’ve really enjoyed,” the American said, adding that he felt the players had enjoyed having him there. He said he had felt accepted from day one. Reed understands, however, why some members might object to players who only turn up for the biggest events. He says he has competed in tournaments of all sizes and has not felt that his treatment was any different.

His return comes against the backdrop of the PGA Tour’s year-long suspension policy. After his contract expired in January, Reed signed up to the DP World Tour, which offered him a safe haven. Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, has said he will vote to accept players leaving LIV, despite the possibility of resentment among some members.

This week, Reed is in direct competition with McIlroy and Chacarra at the DP World India Championship. He says he is not concerned about their performances: “There are still too many events left to sit there and worry about what Rory and Eugenio are doing.” The former Masters champion added: “It feels great to be in the driver’s seat.”
