Arsenal is reportedly close to cutting around 60 jobs as the club faces serious financial problems. The reports, published on Wednesday, come despite its status as reigning Premier League champion and more than 220 million euros spent this summer.

The Independent Football Regulator (IFR), meanwhile, said that 94% of clubs in England were making losses. Against that backdrop, chief executive Richard Garlick is reported to have told staff in a video conference that the club’s leadership was considering removing around 60 jobs in areas away from the pitch. The stated aim would be to reorganise resources more effectively and ensure long-term financial sustainability. For now, this is a proposal under consideration, not a decision presented as final.

The prospect follows the recent announcement of Mikel Arteta’s contract renewal. His salary is reported to be around 23 million euros, which would place him among the world’s highest-paid coaches and make him the highest-paid in the Premier League.

This would not be the first time Arsenal has faced such a situation. The potential workforce cuts underline the contrast between the club’s substantial spending and the restructuring measures being considered in response to its financial difficulties.
