Peñas del Rayo oppose the partial closure of the stadium and express solidarity in response to the decision. In their statement, they say that “the protest showed the discontent of the entire fanbase”. The Disciplinary Committee has, for its part, already announced a sanction following the events during Rayo-Athletic.
The supporters’ groups argue that the decision does not match what happened. Their statement says the whole stadium was involved in the protest and that supporters from all three stands took part. They therefore present the demonstration as an expression of shared discontent, rather than an initiative confined to one section of the crowd.
The statement also questions the use of legal action when a protest is, in the Peñas’ words, “peaceful and democratic”. At the same time, it refers to failures to meet stadium-maintenance obligations. That criticism accompanies, but does not displace, the central issue they are challenging: the partial closure.
Finally, the Peñas say Rayismo will continue to protest. They also intend to claim the proportional share of season-ticket costs for matches played at Butarque. Their statement thus links opposition to the closure with a specific request concerning the cost of games held at the stadium.
