José Bordalás has praised Dani Carvajal’s humility since his arrival at Getafe. The 34-year-old right-back joined the club as a free agent after leaving Real Madrid in June, on a deal through the end of the season. “We welcomed him with open arms. Getafe is a family; he arrived with great enthusiasm, and his humility and simplicity surprised us. He is going to contribute a lot. He is a great professional,” the coach said.
Carvajal cited the opportunity to pursue his career in Spain near home as an important consideration in selecting Getafe. He also described joining Getafe as a good opportunity to find the continuity he wanted in LaLiga, after seasons disrupted by injuries and other difficulties.
His return cannot begin in Getafe’s next European fixture: he was not registered for the Conference League opener against Universitatea Craiova. Getafe travel to Craiova hoping to begin their European campaign with a win. Bordalás said his team understood the challenge and wanted to make a strong start. “It is very exciting to play this first match. We know it will be difficult; there will be a good atmosphere and it will not be easy. We want to put in a great performance,” he said, adding that his team wanted to play well and claim its first victory in the competition.
The comments come after Getafe’s defeat to Barcelona, with Bordalás looking for his players to respond in Europe. Carvajal, meanwhile, is expected to work towards making his domestic debut when he is ready to play.
