“We had talked about transitions before the match,” Froholdt said. The Porto midfielder recalled that his team had anticipated that threat, but did not manage to prevent it often enough against Betis.
Victor Froholdt lamented the three goals conceded by Porto on Wednesday at Betis, some of them following counter-attacks. He noted that Porto’s players had discussed their opponents’ transitions before the game, particularly because Betis had already scored many goals in that way.
The Dane also acknowledged that his side had struggled at various points in both halves. “We were good when we scored, and I think two goals should have been enough to at least draw at this ground,” he said, adding that the team were leaving “very disappointed with the result”.
Froholdt praised Betis’ “great quality” in the final third, which made it difficult to control the match, especially after the two goals scored in the second half. He also regretted that Porto had not been better prepared to press high or defend long balls.
After the 1-2, he added, Porto conceded “two avoidable goals”. In his view, letting in three makes it almost impossible to win this kind of match. He felt his team had moved the ball fairly well to find the free player, but regretted a lack of alertness in defending Betis’ wide players.
