Delonte West sidesteps question about rumour involving LeBron James’s mother

Delonte West gave an enigmatic response when asked about a rumoured romantic relationship with Gloria James, LeBron James’s mother, from the time they were teammates. Comedian Supa Hot Fire put the question to him directly: “Delonte West, did you have sexual relations with LeBron James’s mother?” West replied: “A gentleman never talks about those things.”

The rumour dates back to the NBA playoffs in 2010, after the Cleveland Cavaliers were eliminated by the Boston Celtics in the second round. It continues to follow West as the former player is expected to face Michael Beasley, also a former NBA player, in a boxing match in Miami. The event, called “Brand Risk 16,” is being organised by Adin Ross.

West’s personal circumstances provide another backdrop to the exchange. In August, he revealed that LeBron and Gloria had checked on him and his mother during his most difficult periods, helping them get through the situation. In 2012, West had also described the story as “terrible in many ways.”

Another account refers to West having earned 16 million dollars and being detained over the theft of 23 dollars. His response to Supa Hot Fire, however, did not settle the rumour; it left it hanging as an insinuation.
