Atlético de Madrid’s Peñas day will take place on Saturday 24 October, alongside the club’s match against Deportivo de la Coruña. Kick-off is scheduled for 21:00 at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. The announced date comes with controversy over ticket sales for the game.
The day will feature a range of activities and pay tribute to the thousands of Atlético Peñas members spread across Spain and around the world. The club chose a Saturday-evening fixture, leaving time for supporters to gather; the following day is a Sunday, a day off for most of them.
The dispute stems from strong demand for tickets to the match: Atlético has decided not to sell any to the visiting club. The move also avoids a possible problem, as reported, arising from poor relations between the supporters’ groups Riazor Blues and Frente Atlético.
The fixture carries particular significance for Deportivo: the club has not played in the top flight since the 2017-18 season and had not visited the Metropolitano since 1 April 2018. On that visit, Atlético won 1-0 with a goal from Gameiro.
