Chelsea announced on Friday that captain Reece James had undergone successful knee surgery. The procedure was described as minor and followed an injury sustained during training. The club confirmed both the nature of the operation and its successful outcome.
Aged 26, James missed Chelsea’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. He was undergoing medical examinations at the time to assess the injury he had picked up in training. His absence therefore came before the operation announced by the club.
The captain has already started his recovery. Chelsea’s medical staff will support him through rehabilitation at the club’s training centre in Cobham. No return timetable was included in the announcement, leaving rehabilitation and treatment as the immediate next stage for James.
Chelsea staff also wished their captain a speedy recovery and expressed their support until he returns to the pitch. The announcement confirms that the operation went well, while James has now begun the recovery process under the club’s medical team.
